Ingredients:

  • 1 cup masoor dal (red lentils), rinsed and soaked for 30 minutes
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 medium tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp Nuvi Spicez' Perfect Spicy-Perfect Colour Red Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Nuvi Spicez' Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tsp Nuvi Spicez' Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp oil or ghee
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh coriander for garnish
  • 2-3 cups water

How to Create Your Masoor Dal Magic:

  1. Prepare the Dal: In a pressure cooker, add the soaked masoor dal, Nuvi’s Turmeric Powder, salt and water. Cook for 3-4 whistles or until the dal is soft and fully cooked. If using a pot, boil the dal until tender, adding water as needed.
  1. Create the Tadka (Tempering): Heat oil or ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they start to splutter, add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown. Add ginger-garlic paste and cook for a minute until fragrant.
  1. Spice It Up with Nuvi’s Blends: Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until soft. Stir in Nuvi’s Red Chilli Powder, Nuvi’s Coriander Powder, and cook for a couple of minutes, letting the spices release their flavours into the mix.
  1. Bring It All Together: Add the cooked masoor dal to the pan with the spiced onion-tomato mixture. Stir well, adjust the water to your preferred consistency, and let it simmer for a few minutes to combine all the flavours.
  1. Serve & Enjoy: Garnish with fresh coriander and serve your Masoor Dal hot with roti, naan or steamed rice. The balanced heat from Nuvi’s Red Chilli Powder will add the perfect kick!

Pro Tip:

For a creamier texture, mash the dal lightly with the back of a spoon before adding the tadka.
